What to know

The RAVA next manual says not to use the child restraint if it is more than 10 years old, and tells you to check the manufacturer label or the stamped do-not-use-after date on the bottom of the child restraint base. Note that it sends you to the base rather than the shell, which is easy to miss when you are inspecting a secondhand seat in a driveway. The manual states this child restraint is certified for use on aircraft and gives an aircraft installation procedure. Same 10-year figure as the original RAVA, but read the date off the seat in front of you rather than assuming.

The date of manufacture is on the seat itself. The model number, date of manufacture, and stamped do-not-use-after date are on a label on the bottom of the child restraint (and on the underside of the base for seats sold with one). Nuna also prints this information on the registration card packed with the seat.

Safety note: SeatCheck summarizes manufacturer and NHTSA guidance, but the label on your own seat and its manual are the final word. When in doubt, contact the manufacturer with your model and serial number.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the Nuna RAVA next good for?
The Nuna RAVA next has a useful life of 10 years from its date of manufacture. The exact date is printed on the seat's own label, so check the sticker on the shell or base rather than counting from the purchase date.
Where is the expiration date on the Nuna RAVA next?
The model number, date of manufacture, and stamped do-not-use-after date are on a label on the bottom of the child restraint (and on the underside of the base for seats sold with one). Nuna also prints this information on the registration card packed with the seat.
Should I replace the RAVA next after a crash?
Nuna's US manuals reproduce the NHTSA criteria: never use a seat that has been in a moderate or severe crash, while a seat may continue in use after a minor crash only if the vehicle drove away, the door nearest the seat was undamaged, no one was injured, no airbags deployed, and the seat has no visible damage. Nuna also says to stop using a seat with frayed straps or damage from any crash and to call 1-855-NUNA-USA with questions.
