What to know

The PIPA rx is not on Nuna Canada's current car seat listing, and its US manual gives no year figure: it says only to check the label on the underside of the base or carrier. The 7 years shown here is the PIPA-series figure from Nuna's Canadian PIPA, PIPA lite and PIPA urbn manuals, counted from the date of purchase with proof, or the date of manufacture otherwise. We could not re-verify it against a PIPA rx page, so go by the stamped date on your seat and on the RELX base, which carries its own date labels on its underside.

The date of manufacture is on the seat itself. The model number, date of manufacture, and stamped do-not-use-after date are on a label on the bottom of the child restraint (and on the underside of the base for seats sold with one). Nuna also prints this information on the registration card packed with the seat.

Safety note: SeatCheck summarizes manufacturer and NHTSA guidance, but the label on your own seat and its manual are the final word. When in doubt, contact the manufacturer with your model and serial number.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the Nuna PIPA rx good for?
The Nuna PIPA rx has a useful life of 7 years from its date of manufacture. The exact date is printed on the seat's own label, so check the sticker on the shell or base rather than counting from the purchase date.
Where is the expiration date on the Nuna PIPA rx?
The model number, date of manufacture, and stamped do-not-use-after date are on a label on the bottom of the child restraint (and on the underside of the base for seats sold with one). Nuna also prints this information on the registration card packed with the seat.
Should I replace the PIPA rx after a crash?
Nuna's US manuals reproduce the NHTSA criteria: never use a seat that has been in a moderate or severe crash, while a seat may continue in use after a minor crash only if the vehicle drove away, the door nearest the seat was undamaged, no one was injured, no airbags deployed, and the seat has no visible damage. Nuna also says to stop using a seat with frayed straps or damage from any crash and to call 1-855-NUNA-USA with questions.
