Clek's expiration policy

Clek keeps it simple: every Clek car seat, from the Liing infant seat through the Foonf and Fllo convertibles to the Oobr, Olli and Ozzi boosters, expires 9 years after its date of manufacture. Clek repeats the figure on each product page in the same words, so the Foonf has a 9 year expiration, the Liing has a 9 year expiration, and so do the Olli and the Ozzi. A seat should not be used once it has passed its expiry date.

The date of manufacture and serial number are on the seat's label, and Clek's support site has model-specific articles showing exactly where the label sits on each seat. Add 9 years to the manufacture date to get the expiry.

Clek pairs the 9-year life with a recycling program: rather than landfilling an expired or crashed seat, you can send it back through Clek's car seat recycling program.

Where is the expiration label on a Clek seat?

The date of manufacture and serial number are on a label on the seat; the exact spot varies by model (Clek's support site has per-model guides for the Foonf, Fllo, Liing, and Oobr, typically on the back or underside of the shell).

After a crash

Clek requires replacement after a collision of any kind, regardless of severity. Even a minor crash can cause structural damage that is not visible. Clek asks owners to report the collision to customer support (1-866-656-2462) with the model and serial number, and will provide a letter on company letterhead outlining the accident replacement policy for your insurance claim.

Flying with a Clek seat

Clek's harnessed seats (Liing, Foonf, and Fllo in harness mode) carry aircraft certification; check the label on your seat for the certification statement. The Oobr booster is not certified for aircraft because boosters require a lap-shoulder belt that airplane seats do not have.

Clek's 9-year life applies to the whole lineup, so there is no model-by-model lookup to do; the only variable is the manufacture date on the label.

Clek runs one of the few manufacturer take-back recycling programs in the industry, useful for expired and crash-damaged seats alike.

Safety note: SeatCheck summarizes manufacturer and NHTSA guidance, but the label on your own seat and its manual are the final word. When in doubt, contact the manufacturer with your model and serial number.

Frequently asked questions

How long are Clek car seats good for?
Nine years, across the board. The Liing infant seat, the Foonf and Fllo convertibles, and the Oobr, Olli and Ozzi boosters all expire 9 years after their date of manufacture. Find the date on the label on your seat, add 9 years, and stop using the seat after that.
Where is the expiration date on a Clek seat?
Clek seats carry a label with the date of manufacture and serial number; the position varies by model, and Clek's support site has a locator article for each seat. The expiry is always 9 years after that manufacture date, so one label plus simple math gives you the answer.
Does Clek require a new seat after a minor collision?
Yes. Clek's policy is replacement after a collision of any kind, no matter how minor, because impact damage can be invisible. Report the crash to Clek support with your serial number, and Clek will supply insurance documentation. It also recycles crashed seats through its take-back program.
Can I use a Clek Foonf or Fllo on a plane?
In harness mode, yes, provided your seat's label carries the aircraft certification statement. The Liing infant seat can also fly. The Oobr booster cannot be used on aircraft because it needs a lap-shoulder belt, and planes only have lap belts.

Replacing an expired seat?

If your Clek seat is past its date, a current-generation replacement is safer and often easier to install.
