Baby Trend's expiration policy

Baby Trend publishes lifespans by model and mode. Standard infant car seats and their bases expire 6 years from the date of production, while the newer EZ-Lift and Secure-Lift infant seats get 7 years. The Trooper 3-in-1 convertible is a 7-year seat.

Combination seats have split lifespans by mode: the Cover Me 4-in-1 lasts 7 years in harness mode and 9 years in booster mode, and the Hybrid line runs 6 years with the harness or as a high-back booster and 10 years as a backless booster. The shorter number always applies to the mode you are actually using.

The date of production is on a label on the underside of the car seat or base; add the lifespan for your model and mode to that date.

Where is the expiration label on a Baby Trend seat?

The date of production is on a label on the underside of the car seat and on the underside of the base for infant seats. The same label carries the model number needed to identify which lifespan applies.

After a crash

Baby Trend requires replacement after an accident of any kind, no matter how minor. Its manuals say to discontinue use immediately because a collision can cause unseen damage, and using the seat afterward could result in serious injury or death. Baby Trend does not apply the NHTSA minor-crash exception.

Flying with a Baby Trend seat

Baby Trend's infant seats and harnessed seats carry the standard certification for use in motor vehicles and aircraft; infant carriers install on planes without the base, and the Trooper and Hybrid are aircraft certified in harness mode. Booster modes and backless boosters are not certified for aircraft. Check your seat's label for the certification statement.

Because lifespans differ by mode on the Cover Me and Hybrid, re-check the expiration when you convert the seat to its next mode; a Cover Me used as a booster gets 9 years even though its harness mode expired at 7.

Baby Trend customer service (1-800-328-7363) can confirm the lifespan for a specific model and production date.

Safety note: SeatCheck summarizes manufacturer and NHTSA guidance, but the label on your own seat and its manual are the final word. When in doubt, contact the manufacturer with your model and serial number.

Frequently asked questions

How long are Baby Trend car seats good for?
Most Baby Trend infant seats and bases last 6 years from the date of production, and the EZ-Lift and Secure-Lift last 7. The Trooper convertible is a 7-year seat. Combination seats vary by mode: the Cover Me runs 7 years in harness mode and 9 as a booster, and the Hybrid backless booster lasts 10.
Where is the expiration date on a Baby Trend seat?
Baby Trend prints the date of production on a label on the underside of the seat and, for infant seats, on the underside of the base. Add your model's published lifespan to that date. If you are unsure which lifespan applies, Baby Trend's FAQ lists them model by model.
Does Baby Trend allow reuse after a minor crash?
No. Baby Trend's policy is to discontinue use immediately and replace the seat after an accident of any kind, however minor, because crash forces can cause damage you cannot see. Ask your auto insurer to cover the replacement seat.
Can Baby Trend car seats go on airplanes?
The infant seats and harnessed modes are certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft; fly the infant carrier without its base. Booster modes and backless boosters are not permitted on planes. Confirm the aircraft certification statement on your seat's label before you travel.

Replacing an expired seat?

If your Baby Trend seat is past its date, a current-generation replacement is safer and often easier to install.
